No audio coming out of HDMI - Gateway MD Series

My laptop is from this series http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...F68hCxauiA-bHg and I'm not able to get any audio through my tv when I connect via HDMI. I was previously looking at this thread No audio coming out of HDMI and decided to try my luck here with the same issue, just with my laptop model.

    Any suggestions?

As this PC was upgraded from Vista to Win 7, was all the device drivers also updated? e.g. Video driver (which would include HDMI)? Are you using the Gateway sound driver? If not that can also be a potential problem as many times non-Vendor sound drivers (e.g. the generic Windows HD Audio Codec) either do not work or work correctly. Depending on how the HDMI audio is generated, it may be generated from S/PDIF that is generated by the audio hardware.

When you plug in the HDMI cable does it automatically change the defaul audio playback device from Speakers (your PC sound card) to the HDMI? If not, what happens when you manually change the default playback device to HDMI (what is needed for HDMI audio)?

Nah, it doesn't automatically change it. When I go into Device Manager I see there is an option that shows HDMI, but when I go into Manage Audio Devices it only has the default computer option and SPDIF. When I switch it to SPDIF it shows the volume bar going up and down, but no volume coming out of the tv or laptop.

Should I download some drivers or anything you think? I'll post some pics if you need so maybe it'll give a clearer understanding of my options (or lack thereof lol)

It should be showing as ATI HDMI Audio in the Windows playback properties, and if it is showing as SPDIF then it is using the default Windows driver and needs the proper ATI/AMD driver installed. This,

    ATI Radeon

should be what you need. It contains both the video driver as well as the ATI/AMD HDMI audio driver.

Can you run the install again only this time (if you didn't the first time) select the Custom install instead of the Express. Then take a screen shot of what it shows as available to be installed, and post it here. You can then cancel out of the install.

That screen shot of the AMD install isn't installing any drivers, and there may be a good reason for that. Despite the specs listed on the link you posted ikn the opening post, your Device Manager screen shot shows under Sound as it having Intel HDMI audio, which it wouldn't have if it had an AMD.

What does it show under Display Adapters?

Is that what it actually is, or what Logmein shows it as?

If it is Intel graphics, then you need the Intel graphics driver for it as the AMD won't do anything for you.
