I bought recently a new sound card Creative Sound Blaster Z (the boxed one) and went through some troubleshootings uninstall my previous Creative Xi-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI because of generic drivers left from the SB Audigy that came with windows update (39Mb), which i forgot to stop the automated install in WU and now they're stuck in: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\p17.inf_amd64_neutral_a694d28abbbedefa.

I found after some digging internet a site that list all the leftover in the computer after uninstall from "Programs & Features":

    Should I Remove It?

Quite handy also to stop process of the P17RunE.dll.

The site does list nearly all the Creative cards and Creative softwares by naming the files leftover.

Unfortunatly it doesn't list the Creative Tech registry keys (HKLM) to delete, neither the place where are the files to delete (system32, sysWOW64, c:\Windows, etc...), so you'll have to search yourself and do it manually before install the new sound card.

Installed today my new Creative Sound Blaster Z, it works like a treat!!:)

Took me time cleaning previous registry entries & leftovers , but that was worth it!

Easy install in slot PCI-e x2 (black), disabled before Realtek HD in Bios, installed from CD first then updated drivers to last ones.

For those who care about capacitors on that SB Z series, well they're the "Nichicon Gold Caps" for better extended life span. Same as Zx & ZxR.

    4. That leaves the original SB Live series of cards. There is not now and never will be any support for these cards from Creative, and I really wouldn't expect them too considering most of these cards are from the Windows 95/98 era. For anyone with one of these cards the only option you really have (applies to Vista as well) is yet another Daniel_K modified driver set,

SB Live! series Support Pack 2.0 (04/30/2010) - Creative Labs

Filefront mirror - Download SBLive_SupportPack_1_5.rar now superseded

    New version - Download SBLive_SupportPack_2_0.exe

See post #10 for how to install these drivers manually.
    Updated link for #2.
Any possible way to get these sound blaster live cards to play 5.1 sound as in having the center-woofer, R and L rear mini jacks passing the appropriate sounds?

For example all they do is play front stereo on known good 5.1 sound files.
In the configuration speaker setup, they also only play the front speakers.
So this modded driver is only good for stereo sound.

    Download Dolby Digital Plus Demos

    Good day,

Can anyone help me out with properly installing my SB Live 5.1 sound card? The model is SB0220, I used to run a Windows XP 32bit before upgrading to Windows 7 Ult 64bit, my card used to run smoothly on XP but now it just appears in my Device Manager as 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus' on Other Devices.

I tried the following things to no success:

    1) Installing the basic(original?) drivers with WinXP compatibility, said it couldnt detect my soundcard, someone said that PCA solved his issue but I cannot seem to get PCA to pop-up again.

    2) Unarchived the previous installer and tried to force installation from the Driver folder > Setup, it said it completed and needed a restart but nothing happened after said restart, tried again with the 'removing' option then installing again but still nothing.

    3) Downloaded the 2.0 Support Pack for my soundcard, ran the Setup.exe and it said it didn't detect any soundcard again.

    4) Downloaded kxdrv3550-x64full thing but said it couldn't detect any soundcard with the chipset.

    5) Tried doing the update driver manually trick for each of the drivers I downloaded but it said that windows couldn't find any drivers in the folder.

What should I do now? I disabled windows from automatically installing the soundcard with some High definition audio drivers that didn't work either, so now it only shows as 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus'.

    Thank you.

Hello, can somebody help me with mu trouble?

Creative SB cards not working on new pc setup

Hello, i have 3 creative audio cards SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer/Audio and SB Audigy 2 zs. Resently i have changed motherboard Asus M5A78LUSB3 with fx 6xxx CPU to Asus P8P67 LE with i7 4xxx CPU, all other components remained (they are 2 DIMM G Skill RipjawsX F3-10666CL7-4GBXH, AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series). So, the problem appeared, when i reinstalled windows, installed all win updates and nessesary chipset drivers i proceeded with audio driver installation (creative x-fi gamer), drivers have installed without issues, audio card was detected, then i rebooted and noticed, tht there is no sound. Moreover, the sound mixer set to max and mixer bars are jumping up showing, tht the sound is there somewhere. After that, I noticed that there is sound in headphones, but its supersilent, almost on the threshold of my perception.
So, as I had another problems with hardware, I reinstalled windows and all of a sudden I accidentally updated creative driver with windows updates and after driver installation audio card was working with normal sound again. So I was happy with this, but then another, not related with audio hardware problem appeared, and I needed to reinstall windows one more time. So I set all things up, installed all drivers and software only audio driver has left. Then I installed it, and…. No sound again…
I tried all my 3 cards – same thing.
I tried switching off integrated sound card, but nothing
Tried to uninstall ATI drivers (coz I didn’t install them last time, when the sound was OK) but it took no effect.
Tried to remove klite codeck pack, nothing

Only thing working here - integrated audio card. Bt it has really bad sound, so if somebody had such a prob, or can help me to track failing or incopatible driver - please help.

First, you have to make sure that the card is revised to version B3 and the BIOS is up to date with the latest which is compatible with socket LGA 1155 2nd Gen, only.

Second, how can you have Intel i7 4770 Haswell socket LGA 1150 with an Asus P8P67 LE...Its impossible because not compatible.

    You helped me a LOT!

This is John Nozum, a new guy in this forum (joined on 12/18/2014). You helped me out a LOT! I was having problems with my MIDI output being on the soft side, and seemingly "uncontrollable". I went to test a MIDI-to-WAV recording on my new computer, and the recordings came out abnormally soft, even at the loudest settings and nearly BANGING on the keys. Thank you for showing me where to go to control the MIDI output volume.

May God heap blessings on you for the help here--in the name of Jesus.

    From John Nozum--a satisfied user

donrocker, welcome to the Seven Forums.

For the drivers which also contains the Audio Control panel you can find a working driver and most of the apps here,

SB Audigy Series Support Pack 3.8 (04/19/2010) - Creative Labs

As far as the EAX Console and Surround Mixer go, you don't need them any more (and haven't since Creative came out with the Audio Control panel). The EAX tab in the control panel has (or should have) the necessary settings, and for the Surround Mixer Windows 7 own audio settings have the same thing,
