Realtek R2.67 Audio Manager (Does not open)

    Hello All,
I have an alienware X51 with windows 7 and I tried hooking my 5.1 surround sound system to it. But for some reason when I set it up as 5.1 surround sound only my front speakers are working (yet when I actually test it using the realtek driver all the speakers work). After days of research I found out that I needed the updated driver for realtek (which has additional settings to fix the surround sound conflict). So I downloaded the driver, installed it and now for some reason when I try to open the audio manager it does not open. I checked my control panel and it shows that the driver is installed. I also have the icon on the bottom left. But when I try clicking it, it doesnt open.

SO please if anyone can help me out Id really appreciate. And if you tell me to wait for the next update for driver...can you please give me a guestimate when it should come out.

Thanks and I hope this thread helps others in need like myself.

    -Andres

Best option would be to post it on the special users forum section Dell has setup just for Alienware users. There are people there that are familiar with the Alienware systems. Alienware Club - Dell Community

One note, we have found on the Dell users forum that in most cases you must use the Dell supplied sound drivers. Non Dell drivers in most cases either do not work or do not work correctly. I do a lot of hardware support on the Dell forum, but not in the Alienware section. I am listed as one of the Dell "Rockstars" as I have been giving user helping user support since 2002.

    More Help Please

    Firebird,

I appreciate your help but to be honest Ive done everything you explained. Theres nothing in these forums about my problem. Plus, it has nothing to do with my computer being an Alienware/Dell. Its a problem with windows 7. Supposedly this problem is prevalent. The solution to this is to download the updated Realtek driver (supported by dell.....even came with my computer); which I did. But after downloading it the actually program to adjust the settings do not open and I need this to adjust my 5.1 sound. So I would really appreciate it if you can utilize your expertise and give me other input. Ive spent a couple days already researching the net. But there's only a couple of people who experienced this problem. Most who had this problem with their 5.1 system working for windows 7 were able to download the driver and open up the systems panel to adjust the sound to make their speak system to work. I just need to figure out why I cannot open up the settings panel (Audio Manager.) The old realtek driver that came with the computers has an audio manager than can easily be accessed.

    Thanks,
    Andres

The best route would be to post on the Dell Alienware forum as noted. Someone there may have already been through what you are experiencing and has the fix. I do a not of support on the regular Desktop section (I've been on the Dell forum since 2002) but have not come across this specific problem there, and many new/newer Dell desktops use Realtek.
