Please fill out the My System Specs to start with. We are in the dark as to what you have.

A good place to start is your vendor's sound drivers. Reinstall the latest vendor sound drivers.

That is a USB connected device. I would suspect some USB related issue. If this unit gets it's operating power from the USB port, it could be an overload on the USB bus. There is only a certain amount of (total) power available on the bus and depending on what is plugged in (or how much power the Creative E-MU draws) it may be too much for the USB bus and ultimately it shuts down.

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software and I have USB connected recording interface but it has its own power supply so I don't run into any potential USB port power problems.

ill try running the on board sound for a day or something to see if i still get the same problem

thing is, i used to run this e-mu 0202 on windows xp, and never had a problem with the sound, ever.
My psu is thermaltake 750W, dunno if that is a factor though.

I don't think the power supply wattage has any bearing on the amout of power available for USB ports, that is determined by the internal USB hardware.

XP and Win 7 handle some audio functions differently. Do you have Windows 7 (or at least Vista) specific drivers for the e-mu 0202? I see a 2010 "Beta" driver listed for Win 7.

yea, thats the driver im currently using.

when the sound goes out though, i've tried plugging it into my mobo sound,
so, it makes me feel like its a weird driver problem
the funny thing is when the sound doesnt work, i log off and log on,
but while i log off, the sound starts to work again (the log off sound actually plays after nothing else will play)

Where are you plugging in the device, to a front USB port or to a rear USB port? If you are using the front, try a rear port or vice versa and see if makes any difference. On many motherboards there is a difference in available power between the front and rear ports.

If you have a powered USB hub (one with it's own power supply) also try that, with the e-mu device only plugged into the hub, as it should provide enough power and eliminate that as an issue.
