Windows 7: Microphone out after hibernation

Microphone out after hibernation

When I use hibernate with my Acer laptop, after I wake up the laptop the microphone is out. When I use regular restart the problem is over.
I came across various reporting instances of this hibernate/microphone problem on the web but for me no acceptable solutions.
My laptop is an Acer 7740G 624G50Mn. Skype is 5.8.0.158. Windows is 7 Home Premium SP1. On a Fritzbox Fon WLAN 7340. The microphone I use is that of the Logitech Webcam C910.
The microphone is ticked (the standard microphone) in Sound > Properties. After I wake up the laptop from Hibernate, moving the slider in Record > Levels does not change the number in the box to the left.

Are you actually using "hibernate" or are you using "standby". Hibernate is basically the same as rebooting except whatever programs you had open when you initial Hibernate are reopened when you restart. Thus if rebooting fixes the problem, Hibernate should too.

Dear fireberd,
I'm not sure what you mean exactly by 'reboot' in this case; if it's nothing else than 'regular restart' then I already described that the problem does not occur in that instance. I do use hibernate because then you generate a hibernate file the advantage of which is that the computer is switched off and uses as little energy as possible but you get your last session back in seconds if you switch on again.
The solution given here did not work in my case: Webcam not detected after sleep, shutdown, or restart - drivers - windows-7.
The problem is discussed from various angles here: https://jira.skype.com/browse/SCW-2796 (the system used is a Macbook but the discussion is fully relevant.) I just don't like to work with the scriptfile-solution given there.

There are two different modes. Hibernate and "Sleep/Standby". When you Hibernate the PC, it creates a file on the hard disk of all the program applications you have open and the data in those applications, then powers off. When you power on the PC (and boot up) it goes through the exact same procedure it does on any power on sequence, except that after Windows initializes it goes an additional step and starts all the programs you had opened and the data in those programs (for example if you had an Excel spreadsheet open when you did the Hibernate then it would start Excel and also the open spreadsheet with all the data in it).

Here is more on Hibernate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernation_(computing)

Sleep mode refers to a low power mode for electronic devices such as computers, televisions, and remote controlled devices. These modes save significant electrical consumption compared to leaving a device fully on and idle, but allow the user to avoid having to reset programming codes or wait for a machine to reboot.

Dear fireberd,
I do know what hibernate is and what the difference is with a regular restart and with sleep mode.
Did you read my reference to https://jira.skype.com/browse/SCW-2796 ?

Well if its a Skype problem then it's not an "audio" problem, its an application program problem or the way your laptop handles Hibernation.

I questioned Hibernation as after doing PC support for many years (I've done computer maintenance and user support since 1961) I have run across many that do not know the difference between it and standby/sleep.

In the meantime I found out that my laptop switches off the webcam when I use hibernation. What can I do to stop this behavior without resorting to implementing the VBS routines as given in https://jira.skype.com/browse/SCW-2796 ?
