Sound only coming out of one earphone, not the earphones.

    Hi all,for

So I have been having a fair amount of problems with my speakers since I acquired the laptop in October; the quality and volume are both terrible, but after reinstalling drivers and speaking to members on this board, and we deduced that the laptop speakers were just shocking.

However, I have just plugged earphones in and noticed that I can only hear sound out of one of them, unless i turn the sound up loud and then I can hear sound from the other one very quietly. I have tried several different pairs of earphones.

I have reinstalled audio drivers several times and was wondering if there is any type of diagnostic test I can do on the hardware, or if anyon has any other suggestions.

    Regards,

Start with checking that the balance/levels for the left and right are the same,

It could also be that the jack on the laptop is defective, of which the only fix for that is to take it in.

    Yeah checked that thanks.

It could be, though I was wondering if there were any ways to check without bringing it into a repair shop?

Also, how do a repair shop check that? Is it something I could do myself?

If you have used multiple known good headsets and the problem persists with all of them, then you have pretty much already tested.

I know this doesn't resolve your problem but if all else fails you could always go for a cheap pair of USB earphones +- £15 ... this will bypass any soundcard issues, and is cheaper than sending it in
