After so many months , I can confirm that the crackling issues I've been experiencing are fixed with the beta drivers provided by realtek (6.0.1.5898) . Finally I can play music without distorsion and popping

PS: Incidentally, it seems that the drivers enable the "pc beep" slider that was missing from earlier releases (1.81).

Realtek PC support has confirmed that the crackling issue is caused by the SiS 671DX+968. chipset present in my laptop. According to them, their drivers are generic, but they cannot guarantee that they work on all systems. Still, they have suggested that I should download a newer beta release (5898), which unfortunately will take a lot of time at 4 KB/s.

I'll report my results as soon as I have them installed in my system.
that makes perfect sense since i have a sis671 chipset on my mobo as well. i just hope they fix this as i dont wanna buy a new motherboard nor a new sound card :/

where do you get the beta drivers? i dont see them on realtek website

they are at the realtek's ftp, but I cannot provide the link as it has a temporal login+password which I am not allowed to disclosure. The filename is 5898_PG281_VISTA_TurnOff_PullMode_Upd.zip. I suppose that as soon as they confirm the issue is fixed, they will update their current drivers

son gohan, could you just upload the beta drivers to Rapidshare or something...
I'm very keen to get rid of these annoying audio problems already.

    Thanks.

    EDITED:

I manage to access Realtek's ftp by obtaining a logon through the 'Express' download option on their website, however I cannot find 5898_PG281_VISTA_TurnOff_PullMode_Upd.zip on that server. They may have it on a different one perhaps.

You won't find the file in the public directories of the ftp site, that is why I said the login/password were temporal. Still, I hadn't considered the rapidshare option, shame to me

Download the beta release (5898) from rapidshare

I still have the same issue with my MSI EX400 laptop with realtek audio. I tried Windows 7 64 bit but the sound is not that clear. Tried different driver with no avail. Any update?

Thank you for that mate, it appears to have finally fixed my audio issues :)

Strangely enough 6.0.1.5898 isn't new at all...just google it...
Driver date as displayed in devman: 20/07/2009.
Also, inside the package there are only Vista related files and folders, although it did work on Win7 Ultimate x86.

In any case I have created a mirror as that RS link may require many download attempts unless you have a premium account:

    5898_PG281_VISTA_TurnOff_PullMode_Upd.zip

son gohan, I can't download from RS as you didn't upload with a collector's account, so it has a download limit. Can you either register an account (it's free) and reupload to RS or upload to another mirror i.e. Hotfile? Mediafire is blocked in my country and so are many proxies, it's a real pain.

    thanks!

It doesn't seem to work on my system. I uninstalled the old driver and installed the beta but when I reboot I get a pop-up saying the HD Audio driver was installed (not the Realtek HD audio driver) and when I check it appears to be the default M$ driver not a RealTek one.I disabled driver signing on boot but it doesn't seem to help.
