No Sound: Restart Fixes - Why? Howto without? This has been happening the last couple of days. I don't know why. I start my computer, and the sound doesn't work. But, when I RESTART it, the sound is fine. Why is this happening? How can I fix this without a restart? It doesn't happen each time I boot my system, just some of the time.
Is there a service I can restart? An application I can reopen? Etc. | My System Specs |

What are you doing just before the sound stops? Did you open a certain program? Sounds like a software driver conflict. Wait until it does it, again. Then, go to Device Manager and check to see if there are any red exes or yellow exclaimations marks next to the sound. Also, when the sound stops, look near the system clock is there a speaker icon with a red ex? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS windows Home Premium 64 bit |

I will update when this problem happens again. It didn't happen when I booted up, this morning. But I did check all of my sounds in the mixer and nothing had been muted.
Hmm, now that I think about it, this could have happened after a Windows update, but I'm not 100% sure. In this morning's bootup, I wasn't told my computer was installing updates, but from a previous cold boot where the problem did occur, I was finishing an update. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number N/A OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit CPU E6750 OC'd ~ 2.9 Mhz Motherboard P5N-E Memory DDR2 800 MHz 4GB Graphics Card GTX 460 SE 1GB Sound Card Realtek Audio (Onboard sound) PSU 750 watt Hard Drives Seagate 500 GB HD |

Windows 7 no sound, I used restore point to fix Windows 7 home premium 64 bit,
My sound was working 2 days ago.
Today my sound would not work. After hours of working on it an trying all the fixes I could find with no success. I wen to do a windows restore point.
First when I got there, If found the windows had started auto updating.
I have turned this off a couple of times and it seems to keep getting reset to auto update.
anyway there were two windows updates applied so I did a restore point to two days ago and my sound came back.
I also reset the windows update to notify but don't update.
I will keep a check on this and see if it stays at the setting. | My System Specs | | OS windows 7 Home premium 64 V6.1 CPU AMD Phenom II x2 555 3.2Ghz Motherboard ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3 Memory 4GB Graphics Card ATI RADEON HD 4250 Sound Card ATI High Def, VIA high Def Monitor(s) Displays IBM L191P , Samsung HD tv Hard Drives AMD 1x2 RAID 1 mirrored 1TB SCSI drives |

Do your sounds not work PERIOD or just certain sounds? like windows system sounds?
I have a similar issue where my windows 7 system sounds (usb sounds, logon logoff sounds, error sounds) do not playback after a period of time (don't know triggers the issue) unless I restart. However my other sounds work just fine, Youtube, gaming, winamp. Just the system sounds become disabled.
I've heard it has to do with Adobe Flash but I'm still looking into it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Less is more OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 2600k (4.6GHz) Motherboard ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe (3603) Memory 16GB G.SKILL Ares 1600MHz Graphics Card MSI R6970 Lightning Sound Card Asus Xonar Essence ST (UNi drivers 1.41) Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570, Samsung 226BW Screen Resolution 1920*1080, 1680*1050 Keyboard CM Storm Trigger (Brown Switch) Mouse Logitech G400 PSU Seasonic X750 Case Lian-Li PC-P80N Cooling NZXT HAVIK 140 (2x GELID Wing12PL) Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector, Hitachi 4TB (7K4000), Hitachi 3TB (7K3000), Hitachi 2TB (5K3000), 2x WD Black 1TB Internet Speed 35Mbps/6Mbps Other Info Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, Sennheiser HD595, Linksys WRT54GL (DD-WRT), Logitech C910 |

Go to control panel/system/system protection.
Poke System Restore, then poke next.
Check "show more restore points".
Pick a date prior to having the problem you are trying to resolve and choose "next".
Choose finish at the next screen. Windows will reboot and make some changes. It usually works and occasionally does not. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;
