I have tried doing this, but unfortunately it didn't work. I didn't see an HDMI option while installing my Nvidia drivers, I've read some threads on other forums, and found out I should try disable the HD audio driver (Nvidia). So I did, I reboot my computer and installed the realtek drivers. Rebooted again, all I get is 4 notifications with "found new hardware" and I have 4 "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" with yellow question marks by them in device manager.
It was a guess whether your nvidia drivers had the HDMI option or not because I only have experience with the AMD drivers and I know they have that option.
The only other thing I can tell you is to search your BIOS carefully. It's tough to troubleshoot these things If I can't get my hands on it. It involves some trial and error. But I certainly know that it is the video card's hdmi ports taking over the sound.
I tried looking in my BIOS for things. I went in Intergrated Perihaps (or something like that) and chose onboard devices. My memory (or something) was set to SHADOW, USB mouse support was set to disabled ( I think). There was Realtek AC97, it was set to auto (I only had the auto and disabled option aviable) There was also somesort of Nvidia LAN device (which also had auto and disabled option). There was also an Nvidia LAN MAC device which was disabled. I'll try to get some shots of the screen, hope you can help me out.
Ok so for the real tek AC97 there is only 2 options? Can you set it to disabled, save the settings and restart. See if that makes any change. Then turn it back on.
also can you get to this and disable hdmi audio?
I stated in the begginging of the thread that I'm an XP user, but whenever I go to sound and audio devices it doesn't detect any audio device.
I also tried disabling and then setting realtek ac97 back to auto, there were no changes. I examined BIOS for a bit. I've seen MIDI Audio (or something like that) being disabled, does that have to do with anything?

oops I forgot you have XP. In any case, MIDI should not make a difference here. Would it be difficult for you to remove your graphics card and all traces of drivers and use onboard video to see if the sound comes back? If it does, then try installing it back in and reinstalling the drivers.
Sorry we cannot find a quick fix.
