    Intermittent DVD player

Every time I try to play a CD in my DVD/CD player, I get the first two or three minutes of sound then although the disc is still being played, the tracking clip is moving across the screen, but I do not get any sound.

I have tried several discs and played them in my Sony Hi Fi system and they work fine.

I tried installing Realplay in a desperate attempt to rectify the problem but alas, no use. Can anyone help please? I have Windows Media Player but can't make head nor tail of that. I am running Windows 7 Premium Home 64 byte.

Hi RonB, try Windows Update first, then look in Device Manager to see what sound your system has.

    Roadrunner,

Thank you. I am not sure which driver I need, I have attached a screen shot and would be grateful if you could have a look and give me some more advice. I am not very good at this sort of thing, sorry to say.

    Cheers,

    Hi RonB,
I don't understand why you have 4 showing. I suggest you right click them and select Uninstall, reboot and have another look after Windows 'Found New Hardware' reinstalls the drivers for you.

    Roadrunner,

Thank you once again. I did as you suggested, got rid of the four items, did a reboot and tried again. I put a disc in the player, got three notes and that was it!!

Have you any idea what else might be the problem, do you think there might be some dirt on the mirrror of the player and it needs a clean?? I am at a loss as to what to try next.

I let Windows sort out the drivers, did a Dell computer check and everything passed muster. I have attaached the lastest screen shot so you can see the set up.

Just as an aside, I used to live near Kilmarnock...

    Regards,

    RonB,
It's highly unlikely to need cleaning. Go to Realtek and download the HDA version for your system. Install this way with your FW & AV disabled Installing.pdf

Correct. If by chance you tried to install the wrong item, your pc would not allow it.
