Windows 7: Help with setting up my headphone

I recently bought one of those headsets with a mic that you can use to talk the only problem though im having difficulty setting it up. I make sure that all the ports are correct but all i hear from it is static. What did i do wrong?

Well i manage to get it set up but now my speakers are so low and i have no idea what happened
