    Random sound bursts?

Recently, I've been getting random "sound bursts" out of the blue. Not doing anything in particular other than browsing the net, when these very short burst of sound occur. Last about 1/10th of a second and sort of sound like someone saying something, but really can't tell. The only thing that I have done that I can think of was that I got a new printer that is setup wirelessly to my laptop and via usb to my desktop. The sounds are occurring on my desktop; although, I haven't been on the laptop lately.

What do you have running in the background? Are you close to a radio station? which can cause "RFI" interference.

Not close to a TV or radio. This sound burst just started to appear...

Could it be a wireless phone or cell phone that's been recently added to the household. Also how close to your closest neighbor are you? Are you on a wired or wireless connection. If wireless you can try changing the channel frequency in the router.

The computer in question is directly connected to a modem. I do have a laptop that is wirelessly conneced to this system, but it doesn't exhibit this behavior. The only thing I did recently was to wirelessly connect the laptop to a new printer/fax. The desktop is connected to the printer via usb.

It's doubtful that you can select other frequencies for the wireless printer. Could you connect the printer via a usb cable and see if the noises still occur or go away?

I could, but I'm not going to as the sounds only seem to occur occasionally and I just may have to live with it.

+1 to that and it may just go away.

It could still be some program that's running, causing it. Look at what is in the "notification" area (used to be called sys tray).

It could still be something external that is getting into just the speaker system.

As I'm a "Florida retiree" I hear things occasionally
