Hear voice thru my speakers to test usb microphone

I want to test the microphone levels by simply hearing the sound through the speakers. I have googled and read a dozen things which don't work - I can find no trace of the various settings other people seem to be talking about. Most of the solutions seem to apply to a line in mike but I am using a logiteck usb mike. I am running win7 64 bit.

Well, you can do 2 things actually, both quite simple:
Most easiest, is to open Sound Recorder, record what you speak, then listen it back.
The second one, go to Volume Control, Recording Devices, here select your mic, and at the "Listen" tab you'll find a box with a text near it "Listen to this device", check it, apply then close, you should hear yourself back after this in the speakers and/or the connected output device(s).

Thanks, that was nice and simple. The family pc is win 7, and my pc is Vista 64 bit, which is the unit I was originally hoping to use for the media job I am starting on. Is there any way to do the same thing on vista? The sound recorder does not work with the usb mike and there is no listen tab in the microphone properties.
