Problem with Windows 7 and Microphone Volume

Hey guys, I recently put together my custom system and the audio is fine, but im having problems with the Mic volume. No body can hear me.

    I have an ASrock 970 Extreme 3 Mobo, W7 Home Premium 64bit.

I have the volume on 100, boost on 30, and have been messing with all the settings.
The green bar in sound options only goes up 1-2 bars when I SCREAM into it. This is very frustrating, and I have noticed a frequent amount of threads pertaining to this issue, please let me know what I should do.

P.S Its Realtek Audio and I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers!

What kind of microphone are you using? You need a "computer" mic or a combo headset/mic designed for a computer.

Have you tried both the front panel and rear mic jacks? Could be a problem with the front panel jack.

I just built a new system and had memory slot problems (2 slots did not work) with an ASRock Z77 Professional (Fatal1ty) motherboard and have since replaced it with a Gigabyte. So far working without problems.

Thanks for the reply, ill first state that the motherboard has excellent reviews, and the bad ones have nothing about sound So i dont think that is the problem, and what I did was put a microphone/headphone into one slot and a microphone/headphone in the other slot and tested.

I have tried both front and back.

The reviews on the ASRock that I had, had good reviews and the ones that were negative were not about the bad memory sockets that I had.

Generally the front panel connection for new motherboards uses the HD Audio connector, not the older AC97 connector. Do you have this? Also, for testing, disconnect the front panel headphone/mic connection at the motherboard and then try the rear mic jack, just in case the front panel connection is causing the problem.

If it still will not work properly, since this is a new build contact ASRock support. That is one plus, they responded to my problem the same day.

Yes, I had 2 plugs that could have gone into the motherboard, and the AC'97 is not in. And it very well may be that the front audio could be bad. If my front audio is disconnected, will the back work alright?

Either one should work, but if there is a problem with the front mic jack it could cause a problem on the rear mic jack.

This may not be the problem, but something to try.

I had a USB problem with one build. It turned out the front panel assembly was causing the problem. I contacted the case vendor and they sent a new front panel assembly and it took care of the USB problem.

Alright ill go do it now, if there is a problem with the the front panel and I disconnect it, will the back panel work properly? And should I try putting in AC 97 into it after to troubleshoot?

The back panel will work with the front disconnected. As I noted, if there were some type of problem with the front panel or cabling, that is causing the problem, disconnecting the front panel will correct that.

If it works OK with the front panel disconnected, you can try both the HD (again) and AC97. If it does not fix the problem, I would reconnect the HD Audio connector.

Just as a final check, make sure the Device Manager shows the RealTek for the audio and not the generic HD Audio Codec. And, check ASRock for any updated sound driver.

If it sill doesn't work correctly, best to contact ASRock support and see if they have something (or if they think there is a problem with the board).
