I wouldn't think so, but you can try an external. The device that is in there now may just be incompatible. Just make sure you have any internal or on-board sound devices/cards disabled.
You should be able to do that in Device Manager.

That is telling me that your sound device, and or sound program is not capable.

I'm having more problems now. I'm getting spikes of cpu memory usage, I think. My task manager is slow and unresponsive, as is explorer and firefox (though much less severely) and presumably other internet browsers. I scanned with malwarebytes and removed 36 infections. I scanned again with AVG and all seems clear, but the problem persists. I've attached the log. Latencymon isn't picking up anything.

I'm going to give system restore a shot.

EDIT: Aaaand system restore caused a blue screen.

Is your machine going to brick? I certainly hope not!

Your Mbam report showed no malicious items, but I would suggest removing AVG, pick your version, and installing MSE just to test.

You could also try Superantispyware, it will find malware that mbam can miss. The freeware version will be sufficient.

The reason your machine has gotten slow the past few days is because it still has some nasties in it.

The usbhub.sys file is the default hub driver for USB, and is updated only through Windows Update, so make sure your dv7 is updated which I think we already checked.

Try following Troubleshooting specific Stop messages 0x0000009F Descriptive text: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE especially step #5.

Do you have any Mfg. disks that you could try a System Restore, Option Two or Startup Repair, in safe mode?

You are going to have to make sure your machine is completely free of malware or you will end up doing a: Repair Install

Scanning with MSE right now. I just noticed that when I unplugged my laptop, the slowness kicked in. Putting it into and out of hibernation mode seemed to remedy the problem. Does that narrow anything down?

EDIT: Well after nearly five hours of scanning, all MSE found was a keygen file. I'll give the other methods a shot.

EDITED EDIT: Restored my computer. Successfully this time. I think I may have picked the virus up while on a really crappy hotel network in tokyo, and I restored to a point before then. Going to scan again to make sure the other things I picked up are gone.
