Connecting "HD audio" cable from front panel to sound card

My sound card Xonar D1 doesn't work properly and i wrote to ASUS and they told me to connect the "HD audio" or "speaker" cables from the front panel of motherboard to the sound card's front panel. Is that safe to do? weather it will work or not, is it safe to try?

Most newer cases have two connectors for front panel audio. "HD Audio" and "AC 97". The HD Audio connector is the correct one to use. The AC97 does not have some automatic sense capability that the newer HD Audio does.

The connector is "keyed" (one pin missing) so line it up correctly when installing.

If you aren't used to messing around inside, do make sure to power down, unplug, and discharge (press the power button after unplugging) the system before messing with any cabling.
