Windows 7: New computer, volume fluctuates in certain media files

I built a new computer, with an ASRock motherboard, z77 thing, and installed Windows 7 and everything. It came with some audio things like THX TruStudio.


And I notice that the volume fluctuates very noticeably when I'm playing sound files or video files. It can be a difference where people talking at normal volume is barely audible, like a whisper, then a sudden voice or musical piece coming in is close to ear-splitting when the volume is turned up to better hear the previous bits.


And I noticed this happens in all the same places in certain files, and is the same across several different media players.


I tried shutting off the THX TruStudio, and altering the Realtek settings constantly, but it did nothing.


I found that the only thing that seems to work is turning on "Loudness Equalization" in the SPeaker properties enhancement. I've noticed the strong differences in volume while playing a media file and clicking/unclicking the Loudness Equalization in mid-play.



What's happening here? Should I keep Loudness Equalization on permanently or is it supposed to just be a special feature of some sort if I have a surround sound system or something? (I don't)

THX TruStudio doesnt do that, im also using ASrock mobo with THX, and if you have VIA Hd audio deck you might want to check the settings in that.

I don't know what that is and I do not have that installed on my system

its an audio management software, helps with music and video's audio playback as well as volume, your Motherboard software CD should come with an audio program/driver installation on it?

Disk should have an audio driver and application installation.

No, it didn't come withj that program. It only came with THX TruStudio and Realtek HD audio manager thing

Have you tried checking the Hd audo manager ? rather then going straight to the driver options?

I've toyed about with just about every option on the audio manager and it's affected nothing.

ok quick question, are you using normal speakers or surround sound set? If its surround sound its possible its the speakers not the PC, if not you might have to leave The loudness option on, considering i doubt it hurts much.

Normal speakers, but they also have a subwoofer

its possible it has a little amplifier circuit that could be the problem in which case just leave the loudness option on.

P.S try using headphones, plugged directly into the PC, and see if it jumps, if not its the speakers (turning off the loudness option)
