No front Panel audio detected but Rear Audio works on Asus P8H 61-M LX

My front USB slots work and every connector on the rear works fine yet when
i plug headphones into the front audio jack and nothing is detected.

My Bios are updated to the latest version, i have also tried switching to AC97 but makes no difference. Swapping between HDMI and s/pdif doesn't also does nothing.

The case is a fairly cheap case being a SHAW GT-M2 although it is new.

I have a dual boot of Windows 7 and OSX Lion the front doesn't work with either.

All drivers are up to date with no yellow ! in device manager

Check to make sure that the front panel audio cable is actually plugged into the audio header on the motherboard. If the motherboard has HD audio and the front panel has a plug marked HD-Audio, then plug that into the motherboard. Make sure that it is correctly lined up, otherwise the front panel won't work correctly.

I would suspect a front panel problem. I built a new system a couple of years ago and had that problem with the front panel USB. I contacted the case vendor and they sent me a new front panel assembly which fixed the problem.

But open the front (most just pull away from the case) and check the connections at the front panel assembly.

Im thinking it is that, the usb connector closest to the audio is a bit dodgy as well it has errors when im trying to transfer stuff yet the other one seems fine. Its a budget case so im suspecting the build quality isnt the greatest

Case price, although something to consider, isn't the only criteria. The case that I had problems with was a $100 case.

Ive built a few computers with these cheap cases they are only $40.00 with a PSU and haven't had any problems.
Although with a bit of searching a few people said they did with power buttons not working and when they swapped it into a new case it worked.

The left front USB gives me errors while transferring as well so i guess its not just the front Mic and Audio

I guess ill go and swap it for a new one or a different case and at least that will let me know if its the case or the MB

purchased a cheap coolermaster which had a front HD Audio connector instead of just the ac97 and it worked

Not sure if the connector was faulty or the MB didnt support AC97 properly even though it has a selection in the bios.

Great. Must have been a bad front panel in the other case.

Be careful with the inexpensive power supplies. They tend to be overrated (watts) and have poor voltage regulation. We've seen reports of motherboard damage due to the "cheapie" power supplies when I worked the Dell forums.
