No audio output device is installed, but I do have one

    Hey, guys.

When I hover my mouse over the speaker icon, "no audio output device is installed" appears. I still have sound. There's a red X in along with the speaker icon. When I troubleshoot, it fails and has error 0x8000FFFF. My sound card and microphone stuff are there when I check the devices, and they work. I still can adjust volume with my keyboard, but it starts the troubleshooter when I click the speaker. Help!

Hi, i had kind of the same issue a few days ago when playing Left 4 Dead 2, i disabled my speaker in the Windows Control Panel and it gave me the same error. The difference being, I had no sound at all. Thought about doing a System Restore, but instead decided to reboot, reinstall my audio drivers (even though I was pretty sure i didnt need to), and then reboot again. My audio came back, no issues. This should work for you. If not then hit Start orb, type "Services" (no quotes), click on Services, and make sure the Windows Audio service is working. Also try going to Device Manager (use Start orb to search) and make sure there are no devices with yellow exclamation (!) points. If none of this works then theres not much else I can tell you. Hope this works!
