    Another thing to try:

Go into your system's BIOS settings and check the settings for the on-board audio. (Usually on the Advanced Tab under "Onboard Devices Configuration"

Sometimes there is a setting for "Front Panel Type". You want to be sure that is set to "HD Audio"

If all setting look normal, you might try setting "High Definition Audio to Disabled, then restart the computer (Save&Exit) and let it start all the way into Windows, then restart, go back into Bios, Enable HD Audio, and restart again (Save&Exit).
See if that activates the on board sound chip.

Try connecting the HD Audio cable for the front panel.

Go to Control Panel Sounds and make sure Realtek HD Audio is set as the default sound device.

In the Realtek Manager, try changing the settings in the snip around and see if there is any change. Click the folder icon to access this.

    Hi Britton30,

I've tried this once again and it doesn't make a change. I've gone into the BIOS and put the front panel to AC 97 then there is no little folder in Realtek Audio Manager...

I've put it back to HD AUDIO for front panel and when I go to the Realtek Audio Manager, I can only configure the Digital Output, there is no other devices detected...

The front panel type is set to HD Audio and I don,t have the option "High Definition Audio" in my bios that I could disable...

I'd be surprised if there was not a setting for the on board sound chip somewhere. Each system's BIOS settings are a little different, so you may need to poke around a little to find it.

It's a long shot anyway, it could just be a faulty chip or board.

Do you have an add on Audio card? IF not there will be a setting in BIOS for it.

Yes there is an option to enable or disable the onboard audio card, but no option to disable the hd... this should be the misunderstanding.

Here is a snapshot of my realtek audio manage... sorry it's in french. Maybe that's the problem? haha!

That's what I'm thinking about... it should have sound right off the first installation. I never had that problem ever...

You do have the folder icon and I pointed out in my snip, red rectangle around it.

Yeah you are right... but when I configure the front panel to AC 97 in the BIOS, there is no folder. That's what I wrote on the other post... maybe I wasn't too clear about it. I tried every single and other options in the Realtek AUdio Manager and the thing is that it still doesn't detect any speakers, headphones or mics when I plug them in.

Do you have the option to change to HD audio in BIOS? Odd you Manager window has only one tab too.
