Windows 7: Windows 7 can't find the speakers/headphones being plugged in

Ok, when i plug in my speakers (Logitech X140) or my headphones (wicked reverb from wicked audio) windows 7 (64bit) says that nothing is plugged in and no audio device is installed. The audio works in ubuntu (on a separate hard drive) when i look in device manager under sound video and game controllers it has NVIDIA High Definition Audio for times. It wasnt working on a fresh install. The reason i was using ubuntu is that this started happening a while ago and i got no help so i switched to linux but now i want to have windows so i can play games.

Motherboard: Asus P5G41C-M (i have tried installing the audio and chipset and nothing)
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Onboard sound card

okay the nvidia audio goes through the hdmi connector.
If you right click the speaker icon and disable it as a playback device you should find your normal speakers and headset working properly again.
They operate off the onboard audio device.
I have the same set up here, I use the nvidia most the time because it plugs right into my tv and thus my stereo, but I have to turn it off to make my headset work.

Already tried that, right now the speaker has a red circle and X inside saying that it cant find anything plugged in right now, im trying to use the small lime green plug in on the back for audio and i have tried the one in front, still nothing.

If I know asus it's likely the audio driver they are using is horribly outdated, have you given a look to optional updates in windows update (while nvidia is disabled , as long as it's on, the computer will see it as your active audio device)

...and yup it's from 2009 realtek has drivers from this year up.
You just have to figure out which set covers your audio device.

All i got from the realtek drivers was the speaker icon on the bottom right to show that its trying to output to digital audio and it says speakers and headphones arnt plugged in when they are, im still trying the windows update though

I installed all of the updates i could and still NOTHING changed, it still thinks im using digital audio

Just checked again and this time it saw more updates i guess, maybe the last time my internet had a heart attack for a second but o well im trying the update again

Outside of the socket being physically damaged, I'm not coming up with much more.

nope it cant be because it was working in the other operating system (and without me needing to install any drivers)

Must be windows, better get a mac.

well of course, even though the only reason im using windows again is to play games
