RealTek High Definition Audio randomly muting sound

I have 100 + XP SP3 and Windows 7 computers deployed in a digital signage system. Over the last month we have been getting complaints about sound not working. When I remote in I find the windows and/or the Realtek mixer master sound to be muted. I unmute them and then within a few hours or a few days they are muted again. These are basically dumb terminals with no kybrd/mouse/human attached. The problem seems to be spreading with 2-3 machines a week reporting the same error. Wondering if it was an auto update or something or if anyone else is seeing the same issue. I have it bandaged with the Nirsoft unmute CLI being run by Task Scheduler every few minutes. I have not reloaded drivers yet because the problem is occurring on different machines, different OS and both HDMI and VGA systems. Thoughts anyone?
