SRS control panel on HP laptop altering sound

I have an HP ProBook 4730s, which comes with "SRS premium sound" sound card. It has it's own "SRS audio settings" control panel, which actually sells you rocks as candy (i.e. fancy interface with really strange and useless options for a sound card).

I just discovered that my headphones have NO BASS, approx. everything under 150Hz is at 50% it's original volume.. A quick search on the 'net says to "disable system effects" (Playback devices > Speakers device > properties > effects tab > check "disable system effects"). It solves the problem!
Please notice that the tab is named "Effects" and NOT "Enhancements". Other playback devices have "Enhancements" tab instead.

But I want to FIND where these system effects are and disable only the ones which kill my bass. The "effects" panel shows no effects.

So I'm guessing that the "SRS premium sound" software is destroying my sound. And believe me, the sound is REALLY bad. Or are there any other effects, somwehere else and I'm missing it?

Is it safe to uninstall the SRS control panel?

    Thanks guys!

The SRS isn't actually your "sound card", its just a software add on to the "sound card". And the "sound card" is actually a hardware chip on the motherboard.

There are sound "enhancements" (effects) such as reverb, echo, chorous, etc available but they should not be affecting frequency response. Are you sure its the PC and not the headset? Have you tried the headset on a different PC or tried a different headset?

If you've installed some other sound driver that can be an issue as the PC vendor (HP in this case) sound driver is the best one. Non vendor sound drivers can either not work or not work correctly.

Go to Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup, and untick "SRS...", Apply/OK, and you are donne.
(Here, only antivirus is enabled in Startup)
