No probs Lucas I wasn't holding my breath on the Giga site ones anyway. I have a Giga in this machine and I know the support is pretty ordinary.

Oh by the way don't forget those malware apps my friend even if it comes up nothing you have lost nothing and there again there may be something - sounds a bit gobbledegook but.....
none of the drivers worked. I am going to go find a replacement wire for the audio cable from my monitor to my computer tommorow when I go to work.

    thanks for your help.

Ok mate look I know this can be so frustrating you can try the cable it might just be that sometimes we tend to concentrate on the complicated when it is something real simple.

Personally if your budget will stretch that far I would get a system - I have all Logitecs in my machines and the best is the Z506 - surround sound and mate it is just something else. You don't have to worry about front panel phone jacks and the phones work out of the control speaker jack. That is a plus too because you don't have cables draped down the front of the machine.
Another is the Z313 and it is good too half the price of the 506 but no phone jack. The sound quality is as good as they come and is good for gaming, music and general computing.

Have a look at the prices in the link they are not expensive but for my money the 506 is the go and you won't have to worry re the monitor either.

Going along what you said, if I buy a sound card and build it into my computer, could that possibly restore my sound?

Yes it would but be careful what you get both of mine are Asus Xonar DG's and the 5:1 system plugs into that, It only cost me $32 but I see it is a bit ore expensive over there now Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Input Devices, Sound Cards, 7.1 there are others but that one is good.

If you go down that track make sure you download the drivers from Asus the CD it comes with is pretty ordinary. The good thing is you have a control centre for mixing, effects, and so on.
Oh the drivers will come in a zipped fie and you will need a program like 7zip to extract the files but it is free so no worries.

So for about $135 you will have a terrific set up and system, and you'll be wondering why you ever worried about the monitor:)

If you are happy about installing cards etc no problem if you are unsure just ask.:)

No mate mine are just the plain DG the DGX I don't have listed out here but the DS noted in Newegg is a better version of what I have got. Same quality sound I think just a few more features keep in mind your budget too.

Just don't be tempted by the cheap stuff and well $42 is not that expensive - depends on what you intend using it for. :)

I've determined that audio is in no way going to be fixed (even replaced the cable), so tommorow morning I'm going to Frys Electronics to buy speakers.

    Thanks for all your help

No probs my friend let me know how you go and if you want my advice I'd get the Logitec's if you can run to them - they are self powered so they will not rely on USB power - they are usually pretty ordinary.

Sorry for late reply but at work last night.

Well done my friend it's been a bit of a battle eh? but at least you have a decent system there. Yes the sound is great too I don't think you cam go past Logitec sound stuff unless you are an absolute flat out audiophile LOL!!

Last thing if you want to get the machine running real smooth and a tad faster tyr this I use it on all my machines and fixes -

Optimize Windows 7[2]=Performance Maintenance - take your time it is very educational and if you get stuck post any queries in the thread / tutorial and Brink is such a nice fellow and like he says the only dumb query is the one that isn't asked - my sentiments entirely and anyway you can always PM me. :)
