Have you tried windows update? I got a driver from there for my soundblaster (even though it was useless, i found another fix) but maybe you should give more detail as there are many models of soundblaster?

Do you at least have the speaker icon appearing near your PC clock? I find in W7 that the default sound device keeps switching to headphones from my speakers and I have to switch it back. Just a thought.

This. Check what device is now providing your sound and whether the driver changed it (cos its sneaky).

What sound card are you using exactly and. if it is separate from the motherboard, have you then disabled onboard sound in the BIOS?

Is your system 32 or 64-bit?

soundblaster x-fi, and 32 bit. i can't detect the card anywhere. audio controllers tab in device manager says "ATI Unified AVStream Driver" is installed, but no soundblaster. should i uninstall that AVS thing? also, no volume thing at the bottom. thanks for your attention guys!

Maybe it's come loose. Is this a PC tower? Go inside and make sure it's pushed in the slot firmly.
