Can't set Quadraphonic (4) speaker with RealTek AC97

Windows Update installed the driver for me. The front speakers work fine. However if I use the RealTek applet or the Sounds applet in Control Panel, I cannot set it to use 4 speakers.

When using the RealTek one, it just doesn't save the setting. Or it'll switch to the digital output (which I don't use). Or if I disable digital output, it'll pop up a window saying this control panel applet didn't function properly and give me the option to ignore or relaunch with recommended settings.

If I use the Sounds option Control Panel, I select the configure option for the speakers. I can select 4 speakers. I can use the test button and actually get sound out of all 4 speakers. I click next and either check or not the Full Range options. Click Next and then Finish. I get an alert saying "Format Not Supported by Device".

Anyone have any suggestions?

BTW, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. The Sound Manager for RealTek is 32 bit of course.

Edit: Downloaded the RealTek AC97 Vista64 drivers from the RealTek site. I can now set 4 speakers using the Sound option in Control Panel.
