The built-in Microphone for my HP G60 Laptop is not detecting audio. I can run an external mic without problems so I don't understand why I can't run the built in mic as well.
I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with a Conexant Pebble HD Smart Audio sound card.
I've updated the drivers from HP's website and I have played with most of the settings, still nothing, not even static.
Go to the Sound Panel Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally Sound. In the Sound Panel click on the Recording Tab. The mic should be show and if its disabled, enable it. DO NOT make it the default recording device, the Stereo Mix (System Mixer) should be set as the default recording device.
You can RIGHT click on the icon for your internal mic and then LEFT click properties.
Under the sound window, I could not change the default setting for the mic away from making it a default device, the box is greyed out. There is no setting allowing me to choose Stereo Mixer. I tried boosting the mic boost levels up to 40 dB and maxing out the volume level to 100% and I do get a faint level of constant static, but still no audio input. I played around with the level settings using a headset and all worked well through that.
In the Sound/Recording section, RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and then LEFT click to select show Disabled and Disconnected devices. Then see if anything else shows up, such as Stereo Mix.
Also what does the Device Manager show for Sound Devices? Does it show the Conexent or does it show HD Audio Codec? (you may also have an HDMI Video card audio, too). If it shows HD Audio Codec that indicates the Conexent was not installed an all you have is the basic function Windows installed sound driver.
No other devices are show as disabled or disconnected. Under Device Manager's Sound tab, it shows Conexant's Pebble HD Smart Audio and also Intel's HD Audio HDMI. There is also an HD Audio Controller under the System Devices Tab (unsure if this is helpful).
Let's assume Conexant was not properly installed, do you know where I could download the appropriate software to apply it? or would you recommend something else?
In most cases the vendor supplied sound driver is the preferred. Non Vendor drivers many times will either not work or not work correctly. I went to the HP site but couldn't find the spec's for the sound and/or the sound driver. I found lots of other items, but nothing that listed the actual sound or the driver.
I don't have any HD Audio Controller under the system devices. Disable that (don't uninstall it) and see if that makes any difference. You may have to restart the PC to see if anything changes.
