Does the rear Pink Mic jack work OK?
If the rear works OK, check the cable that connects the front panel to the motherboard and also the actual front panel cable connections. You should be using the HD Audio connector from the front panel to the motherboard, if available. If not, then the AC97 audio connector. It may take some troubleshooting and even using an ohmmeter to trace out the connection to see where the problem is.
