You can try this if Windows is auto installing drivers.

  1. Go to Start–>Search type in gpedit.msc
  2. Click the file to open the Local Group Policy Editor and show Windows who is in control!!
  3. You want to go here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Device Installation. Click on the sub folder Device Installation on the left and on the right side you will see the possible restrictions.
  4. Right Click on Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings and edit this option, set it on ENABLED.
  5. Reboot Windows and enjoy its inability to pollute your system with its standard driver, open gpedit.msc again and revert the change so you will be able to install your driver.

Creative Sound card
I've got a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio. I have 2/2.1 speakers. What jack in the back of the card should I be in? When I run creative diagnostics I hear the left and right speaker but not my center speaker. With the 2/2.1 speakers do you stay in the green jack?

Upgraded to W7. No sound. Creative Xfi card. Help!
I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. My sound card is a Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WMD). I am not sure if that is the actual model name. That is the name that the device manager gives me. RE-installing drivers from Creative doesn't help. Tried the Daniel_K drivers and...
