    Conexant Ac-97 Sound Problem

    Hello there.
Well, after reading several threads, tried different drivers, I cannot get my sound card to work with Wndws 7 64Bit, so, I use this thread as my last resort. I have a Hp Pavilion Zd8000, conexant AC-97 device, as I said bfre, Windows 7 64Bit, I know that there has been several threads regarding this sound card but, every time I try something new, a new error message pops up. the last time I tried ( like 10 mins ago) I think I came the closest to fix this situation, now I get at least " The device cannot Start" (Code 10) or something like that.
    Any help please?

Here's my device Id. if that helps.

    Working Sound

I have a Compaq NX9600 with the same Conexant AC-97 integrated sound card.

I found that I needed download and install the latest Intel Chipset Drivers first.
    Intel® Product Support

Note: My Chipset was the Mobil Intel 4 Series Express Chipset under laptop chipsets
     INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 5, 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets

Then I downloaded and extracted the driver files for x64 Vista from here:
    (SP35558)
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

After a Reboot, I could then manually update the sound card drivers in Device Manager.

It took me quite a while to figure out the Intel Chipset part.

    Good Luck

hey markbgarcia. I have the same laptop. I tried to install the drivers but it always says my computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements?

everything else is working great. I just can't get the dang sound to work. I have my sound card showing up as Multimedia audio controller under device manager.

Need to Update Driver through Device Manager

You can't run the HP driver installer in Windows 7 as it was built for an earlier operating system.

You need to extract the HP driver package first and then update the sound card drivers using device manager. Don't let Device Manager try to automatically detect the correct drivers.

To do this in Device Manager:
Right Click the device -> Select Update Driver Software
Select Browse my computer for driver software
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    Click Have Disk
Browse to the directory where the extracted files are "c:\swsetup\sp3558"
Select Conexant AC-Link Audio -> Click Next
Click Yes to the warning about compatibility

I did find that I needed to get the Intel Chipset drivers installed before the above procedure would work properly. It's been a while since I did this so not sure where I got the chipset drivers, but I think I got them directly from the Intel site. The file name is infinst911autol.exe.

If you are having issues installing the Intel Chipset drivers. I think I needed to set compatibility mode on the infinist911autol.exe file. Here's how I did this:
Right Click on the File in Windows Explorer -> Select Properties
Switch to the Compatibility tab -> Click Change settings for all users
Checkmark Run this program in comp. mode for Windows XP (SP3) -> Checkmark Run this program as an administrator -> Click OK twice
    Double click the infinst911autol.exe file

    Give that a try

    NX9420 Drivers

    Hey Barret232hxc
It's been quite a while since I got this working on my NX600 so the details are fuzzy. I do remember finding out that the driver set for the HP NX9420 is very similar. You may go to the HP site and download the vista x86 or x64 drivers and try them. Also, I remember going to this site which shows driver order for proper install order (I saved it to my desktop). nx9420: drivers

I can tell you that sound is working on my NX9600 with Vista x64. The Sound card is listed in Device Manager as "Conexant AC-Link Audio".

    Driver Provider: Conexant
    Driver Date: 3/21/2007
    Driver Version: 6.14.10.671

    The hardware ID is: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_3082103C&REV_03

    Thanks,

    Mark
