    setting sounds on computer

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Win 7 64 bit. Whenever I have window opening a voice comes through the speaker telling me what the message says. I can turn the sound completely down and I don't hear it. How can I turn this off?

Hello grreatpop, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might check to see if you may have Narrator turned on. If so, turning it off should stop this.

    Turn off Narrator
    1. To open Narrator click the Start button , and then, in the search box, type Narrator. In the list of results, click Narrator.
    2. Click Control whether Narrator starts when I log on.
    3. Clear the Turn on Narrator and Turn on Audio Description check boxes and click Apply.

    Hope this helps, :)
    Shawn

If you like, open Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+ESC), click on the Processes tab, and post screenshots showing all running processes and their details to see if anything stands out as the culprit.

I see nothing in the Task Manager that would give my any guidance - is there anything else you can think of that would cause the Narrator to work when it isn't supposed to?

If the Narrator.exe process is running, then Narrator has not been turned off, and/or hasn't been set to not run at startup.

If Narrator.exe is not listed in your processes, then it could be some other program. Possibly some program that came included with your Toshiba laptop. This is why I asked for a screenshot showing all of your processes when this voice is running to see if it may help ID which one could be the culprit.

Nothing stands out for me either.

You might see if using the tutorial below to troubleshoot with a clean startup may help reveal what possible startup program could be responsible.
