Windows 7: "No Audio Output Device is installed." after HDD clone

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

A simple restart of the Windows Audio service got rid of the dupes and also got rid of sound output. Weird stuff.

Anyway, laptop specs include:
Lenovo T61 Type 6463-CTO
2.4GHz Core 2 Duo T8300
Intel GMA X3100?
2 GB DDR2 RAM
Western Digital 160 GB SATA
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

I have an install disc that I am able to use for recovery options. In fact, I tried some of them when my drive lettering was wrong. So, I'll go and try the safe mode stuff!

I understand you point Kaktsussoft. I would not have believed it myself, except it happened to me.

"However software can be specifically bound to your hardware. " In my problem this was exactly it. the driver installs fine and says it is working, but the laptop doesn't just use the driver, it relies on the software and won't let you do anything without the installed software... at least thats my conclusion.

So a software issue not a driver issue. For example powerdvd you get for free with some laptops.
He's talking about a driver issue! No sound at all!

How to Fix,"Windows Audio Service is Not Enabled" With Subtitles - YouTube
is windows audio service startup type automatic? Are you able to start it (or most likely it already has been started automatically).?

Yes, it's been started, and restarted over and over again, and it's set to Automatic. It's a software issue because I had sound earlier today!!!! I am so confused.

Just wanted to give a little bump update: I tried plugging in one of my USB sound devices I have, which was a no go. It installed and said "Ready to use," showed up in Playback Devices, the whole shebang...but still no sound capabilities because "No Audio Output Device is installed" when, in fact, there are two of them.

rightclick on speaker icon in system tray->playback devices
put checkmark at "disabled devices" and "disconnected devices". Now you see the devices? rightclick on them and enable them.

Do the same in tab "record".

I have dutch Windows 7 so I hope i translated correct

Good job, you did translate it right. It didn't change anything though. The devices are still listed in that window, but it still says "No Audio Output Device is installed." in the task bar and nothing sound related will happen.

I've also tried everything in that video. I just tried rolling back and forth but that also didn't work.
