Still running VISTA 64 bit need help with volume bar

I have removed all the recently installed updates on my laptop and I still can't get the volume bar to show up on my monitor. Down in the right hand corner it pops up just fine, but in the middle of my screen the bar will NOT show up. Does anyone know a fix to this issue? I've googled and looked at all threads nothing has worked! Thanks ahead of time!!!!! Btw, I have a HP dv5 laptop. Running Internet Explorer 8 too.

It sounds to me like you're talking about the laptop's built-in volume control because an on-screen volume control in the middle is always run by software that came with the computer. The only reason for it to stop displaying is if that software is not running for some reason.

In other words, this is not a part of Vista. It also has nothing to do with Internet Explorer 8 (or any other software for that matter).

I'm not sure. I might have a small chance of figuring it out if you tell me the exact model number of your laptop (dv5 might be a bit too general), but even then I don't know if I can figure out the name of the program that runs that volume bar.

The thing is, in order for this on-screen volume bar to stop showing up, the program that runs it has to be removed from the system startup. Either that, or there might be an option in the laptop somewhere to turn it on and off, such as the options for the touch-sensitive media controls. I don't know. Like, my parents have a Dell laptop and I can turn this volume bar on and off by going into the laptop's settings. With your computer, it could be different or it could be the same. I don't know.

What I'll do is I'll see if I can find the manual for your specific dv5 model.

Danger in running Windows' volume all the way up to 100?
Title pretty much says it all. Is there any danger in running Windows' volume @ 100 24/7? The thing is, my headphone amp just died on me, and while I get another one, I was wondering whether cranking Windows volume up to 100 was safe on both the cans (Sennheiser HD 515) and sound card (ASUS...
