    Creative Fata1ity headset crackling

I got these a week or two ago and now as of this evening I am getting occasional crackling with any sort of sound played. This infuriates me because I got it to enhance LPing and to replace my old Plantronics headset as well.

I want it to stop, what could I do to make it?

Do you get any crackling from the speakers? If you plug the headset into the front headset jack, try it in the rear GREEN speaker jack to see how it works. If it works OK in the rear, it sounds like a bad (or at least dirty) front panel headphone jack.

This was also affecting when I plugged in my 2.1 speaker set but when I restarted my system the crackling went away. I'll be keeping a close ear if it occurs again as it wasn't the first time that restarting solved this oddity I had probably 6+ months ago.

One thing I notice, although it may not totally be the issue, is you only have 4GB but you have a 64bit OS. In order to fully use the memory capability of a 64bit OS you need more than 4GB of RAM. The reason for a 64 bit OS is because it will address and use more than 4GB. Your useable memory with only 4GB is somewhere around 3 to 3.2 (or 3.5) GB of memory, the same as you would have with a 32bit OS. Depending on what you have open or how long the PC has been up this can be an issue and cause varied problems. As it goes away when you rebooted it tends to lean toward memory as a suspect.

I will eventually be upping my RAM to 8GB, the maximum my board can handle. Also, I have never had an issue with applications or games regarding memory problems or crashes so the issue described above so I am good for now. :)

My point was, you have a 64 bit OS, but with only 4GB of RAM its essentially a 32 bit OS.
