No sound from right hand speaker

Hi all, my name is Scotty and I've just newly joined with a question to ask about the sound problem on my Laptop.

It's a Toshiba P200-1EE and up until I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 there is no sound coming from the right hand speaker. If I put headphones in I get stereo from them no problem but when I take them out it reverts back to the left speaker only.

I have checked all the balance settings and they are what they should be. Any ideas to what is causing this problem?

    TIA

    Scotty

It's just a guess but maybe the connection for the headphone jack receptacle is dirty. Try hitting it with some compressed air or very gently cleaning it with a small amount of contact cleaner on the headphone jack and make and unmake that connection several times. To my simple logic it's releasing one channel and not the other when you pull the jack out.

Thanks I will give that a try and report back.:)

I tried the above advice and still no sound. Would the connections inside the socket be damaged?

Very likely and as it's on the mobo not an easy repair, if you could get to it and look closely then maybe a pin or part is bendable to make work but it won't be easy.

Maybe a cool set of powered speakers are in your future as the sound of stock lappy speakers suck anyway !

Well today I have discovered that the other speaker (left) does not work now and only the the right hand one works thru the headphones. Is it worth buying a new motherboard TOSHIBA ISRAA (U2E1)?

Only you can make that call. Have you tested another set of phones? Can you open the back of the case up to see any of the mini plugs? If you can locate a mobo dirt cheap then maybe.
