Can I run sound through hdmi and rear jack simultaneously?

I am having a problem with running sound through hdmi from my graphics card and rear jack or headphone jack at the same time. I have to enable and disable the rear jack or headphone jack when I want to listen to headphones. I have a Nvidia 8400gs connected to my tv via hdmi and sound and video travel through the hdmi. When I enable the rear jack sound goes to the headphones but stops going to the tv while both are enabled. Is there a way to get sound to work on both at the same time? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol.

Windows only allows one "default audio playback device" (HDMI OR Speakers). Thus if you have an HDMI cable connected it will (in most cases) automatically default to the HDMI. If the HDMI is unplugged it will default back to the "Speakers" (your sound card).

Otherwise, if you have HDMI connected you must manually switch the playback to the Speakers.

There was a 3rd party software program that would allow both in Windows XP. I don't think its compatible with Windows 7 (or Vista or Windows 8) as some of the audio functions are handled differently than XP.
