Hello vet I suppose the obvious question is this a new thing out of the blue or a gradual change? Plus have you updated all the drivers for the sound and that card?

My other thought would be perhaps the software for the game has got corrupted. I am assuming you have done some malware scans?? If not try these

Ok mate in addition to a sfc and a chkdsk I would do those scans which do not take long at least it rules out some possible malware crap.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Disk Check

I don't know if you have but have you tried reseating the card and RAM sticks too - anything is possible.

You have to turn your in game character to the side to hear someone talking to you?

What game are you talking about, that was unusual description of a problem.

This is actual voice chat in the game?

You checked sound settings, like right click the volume control in the notification area and select playback devices? Select yours then properties, then check all the tabs?

What does Device Manager indicate is your sound device?

Right now I am playing borderlands but this is not the only game this happens with so I would think it is not the game itself. When I say talking I don' mean chat, talking to a caracter from the game like telling me what my next task is.
    The device manager shows
Speakers SBAudigy default device and checked
Also shows digital audio interface SB Audigy ready but no check mark

Hmm I don't see why it should be anything to do with the speakers to be honest they just relay what is sent to them. Maybe this is a software problem?
