    Microphone Suddenly Stopped Working

    Hey all,

My microphone suddenly stopped working last night. I am a gamer and use it for voice chat.

    I have a Dell XPS L702X (Laptop) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. It has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40 GHz.

When I run a diagnostic it detects no errors and it says all of my drivers are up to date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and checking to see if the devices were enabled. My friends say they CAN hear me, but it sounds muffled (like a tin can/talking into a pillow). I tried unplugging my headset mic and using the built in onboard mic and it picked up no sound at all. I'm hoping to get this issue sorted out soon.

I will be the first to admit I am not the most PC literate, so if anyone who is available to help needs more information, I would be glad to provide it.

    Hi huusch01,

    Welcome to Seven forums.

First of all please let us know if the mic next to the webcam is not working or the port on the side of the system. Please check both of them and let us know which one is causing the issue.

If you are using a mic headset then check the same headset on different system to isolate the issue.

Also, check this link below which would be helpful in resolving this issue:

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

    Checking.

The headset seems to be working on other systems. I checked the webcam and it seems to be functioning properly. I will check the link and let you know. Thanks in the meantime.

In my frustration I jiggled it and it made a popping noise in my speakers. Apparently people can hear me know. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say something happened to my mic-in port. Maybe someone got snagged on the wire and tripped. I hope this isn't the case, but for now the issue seems to have resolved itself.
