    alienware m9700 no sound

    I have windows 7 professional on an alienware m9700. I have not had sound for over a month and have been trying to figure it out since. My sound icon in the tray has the red x through it and in my device manager I do not have "sounds, video, and game device"(or whatever it is called). I have a yellow sign on the multimedia audio controller which is located in "other devices"

    I have searched the internet and tried all different solutions that didnt work.

    please help.

    Mike would you post a snip of the device mngr for us? And if you would go inot your user cp and fill in your system specs as best you can. Thanks and welcome to seven forums we'll get this sorted out. Fabe checked out the techware labs review Nice Lappy. Searching for drivers now. didn't Dell take over alienware?

    It is SoundMax/ADI based. Found that by finally finding the download page for his laptop,

    Alienware : The Ultimate Gaming Machineā„¢

    downloading the XP driver and checking the INF,

    ; SoundMAX device information file for ODM
    ; Analog Devices, Inc. Copyright(c) 1998 - 2006
    ; SoundMAX package [M]

    [Version]
    Signature="$CHICAGO$"
    Class=MEDIA
    ClassGUID={4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    provider=%ANLG%
    DriverVer = 03/09/2006,%DriverBuildID%
    CatalogFile=smx.cat

    [ControlFlags]
    ExcludeFromSelect = *

    [Manufacturer]
    %MfgName%=AnalogDevices

    [AnalogDevices]

    %*WDM_AC97AUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_K810NL, pci\ven_10DE&dev_0059&subsys_01181071
    %*WDM_AC97AUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_M7121, pci\ven_10DE&dev_0059&subsys_75851462
    %*WDM_AC97AUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_W830, pci\ven_10DE&dev_0059&subsys_2052161F
    Now just need to find a compatible SoundMax driver for it.

    Couldn't he try to install the Xp driver in compatibility mode"? download the XP driver from the site above to your desktop>right click on it> then properties> then compatibility. check box run in compatibility mode>choose XP. Install as administrator. See if this will work. Fabe

    m9700 windows 7 drivers

    I called alienware tec support and this is what they gave me. You goto alienware.com and choose support then faq/knowledge base and search keyword "6051". This should give you the correct windows 7 drivers.
