Headset & Dragon Speech recognition together not working ?

Hi, just installed the latest Dragon Speech Recognition 12.5 which is excellent and works fine on its own with the mike by the camera in the laptop cover, but can't seem to get a new headset with mike to work with Dragon at all, which is puzzling as the headset mike and camera mike separately work fine with Skype. The reason is I'd much prefer to use the headset with Dragon as I can then sit well back from the computer and relax in an armchair with written notes everywhere, whereas it's uncomfortable over long periods sitting close up to the laptop mike.

Tried everything I can find in "Sound" and "Speech Recognition", the only possible clue suggested is that Dragon is causing the camera mike to override the headset mike which if true would be simple but can't find out how to do it....??

Go back into sound and go to the recording tab and see if your headset microphone is set to default.
Also are you using the one that came with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, if so let me know what kind of sound card you have.

I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 with a headset that has its own USB soundcard VXI TalkPro UC2

Also this guys live and breath Dragon NaturallySpeaking they maybe it will help also KnowBrainer Speech Recognition Forums

Go to the control panel and then go to Device Manager expand Sound, video and game controllers and it should list what you have for a sound card.

If this was a relatively cheap pair of headset that could be your problem, do you have the headset that came with Dragon NaturallySpeaking so you could try that?

Right click on the naturally Dragon speaking icon in the tray go to Audio and then click Check the microphone and see if it shows up there and go through the steps.

Thanks. Doesn't look as though the headset can be configured I'll check with the makers in case. I downloaded Dragon 12.5 from the States so unless they can send one through the post....?

Done a few interesting tests and finally got it all sorted thanks. I had no idea beforehand but accidentally discovered that I can be up to 8 -10 feet away from the laptop mike and Dragon still works just great which solves the original problem plus no headset or wires in the way as a bonus ! Unfortunately the new Sandberg one I bought for Dragon wasn't compatible after all, but fortunately is a big improvement with Skype as some of the people I had been talking to using the laptop mike, found my powerful desktop speakers created an echo their end making it difficult for them to hear clearly.

Very pleased about Dragon though as providing I speak louder I'm now learning how to walk around while dictating !

    Thanks for your help....

Original problem resolved ok, but referring back to the two incompatible now surplus new headsets with voicepieces I also bought, is there any software I can add or do something to them so that I've got them as spares for Dragon if ever needed ? Because I've also since discovered that I much prefer the laptop mike for Skype too having muted the speakers a bit, so it seems a shame to just throw both of them away....?

    Thanks
