Sound randomly died while using Skype

I was on a Skype call, when the call was cut for seemingly no reason. When I tried to reestablish the connection, Skype said that it wasn't able to access the sound card. Not only that, the sound seems to have died everywhere; Windows Media Player can't play because "there's a problem with my sound device", YouTube videos don't work, sound test fails... etc. When I run the audio troubleshooter, it says it can't identify the problem. Nothing looks out of the ordinary in Device Manager either (no red X's, yellow exclamation points...)

Basically, I'm totally at a loss to explain why one moment the sound was fine, and the next it just stops functioning. Anyone have any idea what's broken?

My sound card is an "IDT High Definition Audio Codec"

Never mind. I restarted the computer and the sound's back online. Apparently the driver just crashed
