I manged to get 64 bit vista driver for my audio from my mobo's website...then I followed the instructions from darkassain near the bottom of this page....

My headphones now work again on the front panel.
I see it as a stop gap measure until some proper Win 7 drivers are released...I tried the BIOS thing....seemed irrelevant to me and didn't work anyway.

Shimmy River, found the driver (Vista 64bit) on the Asus support website, installed it as per the instructions on the other post, and voila! Front headphones work again.

I tried "updating" to a Vista x64 driver from ASUS (ALC882_51005125.zip) but after rebooting I got popups indicating that both ALCMTR and RTHDCPL were incompatible with windows 7, and there was no audio out.
It seems Realtek are releasing a new driver every three or four days. I also tried installing R2.36 from Nov. 2 but it still does not get my audio jack config correct in the RT HD Audio Manager and no audio out the front jack.
Will keep checking here and also Realtek for working solution.

Hey just wanted to add my 2cents here... Mine was a really dumb "issue" completely due to my dumbness... I've got a Gygabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H MB with Realtek audio and the issue was that I had to switch in the menu to "Disable front jack detection" and it all worked fine. I read it in the manual for my MB.
I knew it was too good to be true.....
Headphones work fine since I installed the Vista 64 drivers from the Asus website. Problem now is the front panel microphone (that was working fine before), is now extremely quiet.
I've given up with this and just bought a lead to connect the back panel microphone (which works fine) so my headset can reach for a couple of quid, but there's definitely something still wrong. Was just wondering if anyone else who has fixed the headphones issue (Shimmy River??) is having similar problems with the microphone?
I have to say that I do not use the microphone jack in my everyday pc activity so I haven't really checked it out. I'm now having problems with sudden system crashes (event id 41 - source kernel power). I'm sure it has nothing to do with the vista 64 driver though.

Further to your suggestion can you be more specific as to which windows 7 driver? I cannot find a windows 7 driver at ASUS for the ALC882 codec on my MB. Note that my MB is an ASUS P5LP-LE which is not found on the ASUS site because it is made by ASUS for HP.
Also I just tried the latest from Realtec, R2.38 to no avail.Still no front panel audio.

Don`t know if this will help anyone,
My front panel jacks don`t work since my windows 7 upgrade, I read at another website that sometimes the problem is that slightly older pc`s have a different front panel and the new sound drivers for windows7 don`t account for this.
I bought a USB headset , it works fine.
I know it doesn`t fix the problem , but at least im back using my headset and mic again.
