    RealTek sound not recording

I can not make narration files for Windows Movie maker ( not liveMM)
I can not record using Windows recorder
The sound from my microphone comes out of my monitor speakers ( I don't think it should) and it has a echo sound

If I go to the RealTek controls the microphone level bar does move when I speak into the micro phone
but if I go to Windows recorder or Narration record in WMM it does not show any input

I have made several narrations in WMM in the past so I know it did work .. once, and I feel it is a RealTek set up rather than WMM and W sound Recorder problem.
I have spent a couple of days on it now
My Realtek information is: Audio driver 6.01.5874 DiretX 11.0 HD audio Audio Codec ALC662

The mic sound normally will come out of the speakers and the reason many use a headphone when using a microphone with applications such as Skype or on-line gaming. You will have to turn the volume down on the speakers.

As the microphone appears to work, but is not recorded, it could very well be that the programs are trying to record from the "Stereo Mix" and you do not have that or its not set as the default recording device. With the Stereo Mix set, then any recording device will be heard/recorded including the microphone, Line In and streaming audio from the Internet.

To see if you have the Stereo Mix and if its set, go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Recording section. If the Stereo Mix is shown, but disabled or not set as default, enable it and set it as default recording device. If its not shown, RIGHT click in a blank area of that panel and then click to show Disabled and Disconnected devices. Stereo Mix should now show up and you can make it the default.

If Stereo Mix is still not available, it could be your PC vendor has disabled it. You did not include your PC make and model number in the My System Specs (or motherboard vendor/model number if its a custom built system).

No Stereo Mix (may be called System Mixer) is needed.

I was gone yesterday so I couldn't respond (I'm a musician and had a music job last evening).

Can you post what you show in the Device Manager for Sound? You should have an entry for the RealTek and if you have HDMI capability an entry for the HDMI audio. If you have something such as "HD Audio Codec" that usually indicates the Windows installed generic sound driver and that could be interferring. If this is the case, uninstall the HD Audio Codec in the Device manager then restart the PC and check to see if the sound recording works.

To uninstall a device in the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall".

If there is only the RealTek (and possibly HDMI) in the Device Manager, using the uninstall procedure above uninstall the RealTek, DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the driver, then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there were some type of corruption this will usually fix it.

Thanks for your help .I am almost up as running now.
My problem was steel mix was disabled .....I can get a voice recording now in Windows Movie Maker .......but it has an echo effect
I have found the environment effects drop down I will change that from generic to room and see if the echo goes away.
I am most grateful for your help. Off topic : my son's father in law is a professional English folk singer ......look him up on Google
