    Hi,

What I would suggest as the first point of call is to check to make sure the sound drivers for your chip set are installed correctly. You can do this by:

    Start
    Right Click on Computer
    Manage
    Device Manager

From here you will need to scroll down and see if any categories have a 'yellow' triangle next to them. If they do this means that there is a problem with the current driver configuration and you have the option to update this trough Windows Update, or alternatively you can do some searching online for updates drivers, based on the chip set you have.

As well as this, some Audio Drivers come with their own software. If this is the case in your situation, if you load up the software and plug the headphone jack in to the front header, does the software pick up that a jack has been plugged in? Let me know how you get on

    Thanks

I assume this is the same PC that was taken apart. There is probably a connector somewhere that was missed or not properly connected. And, if you reinstalled everything, you need the Dell supplied sound driver. Non-Dell drivers in many cases will either not work or not work correctly.
