Corsair Vengeance 1500s Not Disabling Speaker, Whine When Mic Used

I recently purchased a pair of Corsair Vengeance 1500s, and immediately found some problems with the headset. First, they do not automatically disable my speakers when plugged in, causing no audio to play through the headset, unless I manually disable the speakers. The headset is set as my default playback device. Secondly, a high pitched whine can be heard when the microphone is in use. I have searched online for answers to both of these issues, and have found no solutions. I would appreciate if anyone could provide some insight on the causes, or any possible fixes to these problems.

Not knowing what the Corsair control panel does or how the headset is being detected, the best place to start is Corsair and see if there are any FAQ's or notes about these units.

I've seen posts on their forums, where numerous people have complained about the high-pitched noise issue. Corsair merely dismissed the problem as a "myth", and closed the thread. The issue is apparently driver related, as it does not occur with the default Microsoft audio drivers. Corsair doesn't seem to care; the problem has been prevalent for some time now, and has not even been addressed by them.
