    Random sound

    Hello folks,

For last couple of hours, my laptop is making random sounds and I am unable to figure out what the sound is. I am pretty certain that this sound is not from Windows OS, but some software. I have not installed/removed any new software or update.

The sound is familiar to the CD/DVD burning stuff. When you burn a CD/DVD, it ejects then you need to push it in for verification. If I remember correctly, the tune is pretty similar to that, when the software beeps for you to push the media in (but I haven't burned media in ages).

I am trying to use Process Monitor to find the sound, but I guess I am not able to set it up properly. After setting it up, it made sound, like twice, but it did not capture it.

I don't know how to use Windows in-built event long so that I can figure out.

Does anyone know any better method to find out what that sound is about and how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

Check the system sounds, you can play each one and see if any of those are what you are hearing. That may lead you to where its coming from. Go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. Click on the tab for the system sounds.

You should also look at what is in the notification are (lower right of the task bar), as one of the startup programs in there could be causing it.

Some E-Mail programs will play a sound when a message is received. Programs such as Skype may have a sound, etc.

First of all, many thanks for taking time to respond.

Now, apologies for bothering you to respond.

My 5 YO hid android tablet under his t-shirts (so that I don't see it). The stack was right behind the laptop and it was the tablet that was making the sound (receiving email). I went so nuts that I stopped working and still heard sound after 30 minutes or so. I was like, hows that possible. I checked the pile and noticed the tablet.

My 5 YO is pretty smart.. God knows what lies in future :)

    Brilliant, kids huh.

i discovered today my five year old who still has chocolates left in his christmas stocking, has been hiding them under his pillow for the evening when he is put to bed.
that would explain the sugar type fuelled behaviour evenings we have been experiencing recently

OK. At least you have found the source and won't go crazy trying to find it in the PC.
