W7 does not recognize wireless headset

This recently acquired used Pavilion dv7-2173cl originally came with Vista and was upgraded by seller to W7 Pro 32-bit thru OEM disc set just prior to shipping.

While it has demonstrated capability to recognize new hardware insertion(external TV tuner express card, WiFi antenna booster), it fails to recognize wireless headset...and therefore I cannot add it to Bluetooth system.

My old HP Pavilion dv7-1170us with OEM Vista Home Premium did have similar problem with the same headset(unable to find driver at first, then unable to recognize later on) but thru repeated tweakings it finally worked(unfortunately I have forgotten how I did it). During the course of its functionally, the headset most often worked perfectly but sometime did not.

I am still learning this upgraded W7 system and I am hoping someone most familiar with W7 can help.

    W7 and SP2

    I just acquired a used Pavilion dv7-2173cl with upgraded W7 Pro 32-bit SP1.

I remember my old Pavilion dv7-1170us also originally came with factory installed SP1(Vista Home Premium 64-bit) and Windows Update automatically provided and installed SP2. It did not function fully until SP2 was installed(like IE upgrading).

Now, I am having one(so far)problem...it does not recognize BT peripheral device (my wireless headset). I wonder if missing SP2 is the reason. Windows Update is not providing/installing SP2 and Microsoft Download Center has none.

    Does W7 come with SP2?

Windows 7 is basically "Vista improved", not a complete different OS, like going from XP to Vista or from Vista/Win 7 to Windows 8. All the Vista drivers work with Windows 7. Usually, on a Win 7 install it will install most of the drivers for you. Windows will not install the correct sound driver in most cases and will only install the generic, basic function, "HD Audio Codec" thus you should download the correct sound driver from HP.

About the only driver that could remotely have an affect on attaching/attached peripherals is the Intel motherboard chipset drivers. Suggest you download and install that (and then restart the PC). See if that helps.

Done Intel chipset Utility installation two days ago...and re-installed it again just now(to make sure) and re-started per your instruction....and did not solve problem

It's deja vu...had identical problems with Vista and this same headset.

Just like with Vista, the headset is now recognized and added to PC but cannot find driver...and therefore BT system can't use it. W7 Device Manager is now showing 4 entries of BT Peripheral Device each one with yellow mark(requires driver). Trouble shooting and Microsoft Fixit both unable to solve driver installation issue.

I did some tweakings with my old Vista that solved it...but I forgot exactly how. However, I still remember I did install(instinctively)several drivers from HP support site which seemed to have finally did the trick. But I do not know which driver in particular did it.

I have installed just about all the drivers from HP site except the 17 drivers for multimedia smart:

They all have to do with DVD programs(playing/burning movies, music, pics/vids discs)

Windows 7 does NOT have SP2, it has just a single service pack (SP1), contrary to Vista, that has 2 (SP1 and SP2), so with SP1 you've already got the latest one. If a device is not working, maybe you're missing a driver needed for it.

I have an ACER Aspire 5100 that I have rebuilt. The computer has been fine for two years, but in the last couple of months, it has developed some kind of system issue; system, as in, hardware. I say that because it fails to start. It fails to start ANY HDD, with ANY OS (Win 7, Win 8, 8.1). I have 3 HDD's that I have interchanged between two different computers. I also have an MSI. The MSI takes the same HDD's and runs perfectly. The Aspire doesn't run with any of them.

I have run tests on HDD; Memory, System. I have used HBCD, Hitachi DFT, SeaTools, all to test the drives IN the laptop. There are never any problems. I try to start the computer, I get 0xc0000001, 0xc0000221,and there's another one. But all research on the error codes, and the subsequent procedures suggested yields nothing, 0 (zero), zilch, nada.

Needless to say, I am frustrated. As a builder, I need to know how to complete builds. I'm glad this is my computer and not a customer!

So, I pull out the Big Gun, Brink! My man! What else do I need to do?

The dude is awesome. When I grow up, I wanna be just like that!

But really, he has a grasp of this stuff that's unreal. I really do wish I had that kind aptitude for it.

OK...I am making progress with this headset... now recognized and labeled by W7 as SY-BT Headphone (SY for Sheng Yun). I even did not know that is the device's brand.

But W7 cannot install driver. Vista did. So what does Vista have that W7 does not?
