Just installed Ubuntu, now Windows doesn't recognize my speakers.

Hi, I just started a website, so I want to be able to run ubuntu alongside windows, the only problem is that when I installed Ubuntu, my sound stopped working in windows 7. All of my output devices work perfectly in unbuntu, but only my HDMI audio output works in windows. I have tried installing and uninstalling a lot of drivers, both 3rd party and windows and have gotten nowhere. does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to rectify this situation?

How did you install Ubuntu - in double boot or in a virtual partition ?

Ubuntu apparently does not release the handle on the speakers when you shut it down. I would call that an Ubuntu bug. Suggest you discuss that with the Ubuntu people.

The other option you have is to install Ubuntu in virtual. I run 5 Linux systems that way and it is much better than double booting. Here is a package I made where I show the setup for Mint and Zorin as well as Windows 8.1. Ubuntu would be the same as e.g. Mint. Have a look, maybe you like that. You can run the controls from the webpage.

Went over to the ubuntu forums, after a lenghty talk, they suggested I come over here. So i guess no dice on getting sound.

Obviously this is too simple solution, I guess this is the first you tried, but have you checked the Playback Devices (right click Speaker icon in Notification area, select Playback Devices)?

If it shows the HDMI output as default but also lists your sound card (Speakers and Headphones in below screenshot), have you tried to right click it and set as default playback device?
