FIXED No sound on speakers after Win7 32 bit install

I wanted to share the solution to my problem, which might work on some other systems.
After installing Win7 (32bit, clean install) on my Toshiba Satellite U205, I had no sound outputting thru the speakers and the front jack, despite the volume indicator showing some activity when playing a sound. The drivers used by my audio chip are the SoundMax.

After digging the web and trying about 10 different drivers, I came across a small utility provided by Toshiba to un-mute the sound card after a clean Vista install. Although it was not meant to be used with Win7, I installed it and there you go, the sound came back!

The link for the utility is: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/cont...off_25847B.exe

For information, I did not have to run the patch in compatibility mode. Please, reply to this post if the utility solved your sound problem on a different system than mine.

I used Drivermax to search for new/additional drivers worked a treat, be warned as a free user you only recieve two updates per day so choose wisely.

I recently installed Windows7 on a Toshiba Tecra S4 and experienced the same 'no sound' problem and same seemingly endless frustration with drivers that didn't fix the it. This worked first time. Thanks so much for posting your solution and saving my sanity.
