    Baffling audio problem in Chrome

The short version is this, I have exactly 2 subscribed channels (Purgegamers and Numberphile) in Youtube for which the videos have no audio when played back in Chrome, although they play fine in IE. This problem started suddenly after I resumed playback from a paused video. All other videos (Youtube or otherwise) play fine in Chrome thus far, including the deafeningly loud Youtube ads between videos with no volume.

Strangely, the videos with no volume still show normal audio activity in the Volume Mixer (the green bar grows and shrinks like it should), there just is no sound coming from the speaker.

So far I have spent most of today restarting Chrome, rebooting my PC, clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, googling all sorts of Chrome and Youtube audio issues, uninstalling/reinstalling codecs, looking for every conceivable volume/mute setting, running sfc /scannow, removing all Chrome extensions, using incognito mode, and come up with absolutely nothing.

I realize this is not necessarily a Windows 7 audio issue, but it seems like it has to be bigger than just a Chrome problem since uninstalling/reinstalling Chrome does nothing to fix it. Also, as far as I can tell all Google product forums are ghost towns.

Anyways, I am completely baffled, befuddled, and bewildered. Any ideas I could try besides kicking Chrome to the curb or doing a system reinstall?

Hello a d welcome Plockets mate for one who is what I suppose is the average computer user I personally do not see anything wrong with IE. If someone could convince me that Chrome or some other browser could whole seconds faster and a heap safer than IE then I might try it.

But as with all things how one uses the net is the most important thing - security wise at least. Speed wise well if IE could be faster then again I for one fail to see how my IE browser is slow?? I am talking milliseconds here when browsing and cannot justify trying something that I potentially would not like or screwed up my machines - in fact I would be really ticked off.

So in answer to your problem is Chrome worth this hassle??

Not using Chrome is certainly my current fix, at least until my next system reinstall. But the problem is so bizarre, I wonder how it is even possible? I mean, it (so far) is specific to 2 youtube channels, and there is normal audio activity showing in the Mixer, but no volume, wtf?

This may be a faulty install so just what are you installing from?

If you want you can use the activation code of the OS you have now and use this tutorial to get an official version. Just make sure you get the right version though and not like some silly people think they can go one version above what they have already got. See my pic for getting the right version I have ringed the Home only for reference purposes.

The iso I grabbed from the web was ultimate x64, X17-59465.iso. Also, as I said, the audio stopped working after a pause/resume, I did not have this problem for the first year of my installation. Thank you for your time!

I actually have the onboard audio disabled and use an Audigy SE. I did just reinstall those drivers, but no luck :/.

Yeah, that's the driver I use. I would expect crashes or a more general audio problem if it were really a driver issue though, not just a chrome problem with 2 specific youtube channels.

I would not change a bunch of things on a computer over a couple of youtube channels. If your system works as it should except for the youtube channels I would blame the youtube channels not your system.
